A white drop needle polo has nowhere to hide. No pattern, no print, no colour doing the work — only the knit, the collar and the fit. Ours is cut and finished in Pakistan, with oxblood tipping at the collar and cuffs and the Orphic script embroidered at the chest.

What makes this white drop needle polo different

Drop needle is a knitting technique, not a finish. Needles are deliberately removed from the machine bed so the fabric forms fine vertical ribs as it is made. Those ribs give the cloth structure and a quiet directional texture, and they are the reason this polo drapes straight instead of hanging flat. You notice it most in white, where there is nothing else to look at.

The difference is a quarter of an inch. A collar that holds its line instead of curling after three washes. A shoulder seam that stops where your shoulder stops. A body that skims rather than clings. None of it announces itself, and all of it is why the polo reads considered rather than ordinary.

Fabric and construction

Combed cotton in a drop needle rib. Combing removes the short fibres before spinning, which is why the surface stays smooth through repeated washing instead of pilling at the shoulders and underarms — the difference between a white polo that lasts two summers and one that lasts five.

Collar and cuffs are ribbed and tipped in oxblood, holding their shape rather than relaxing into the wash. The placket is finished flat and left open, so nothing sits wrong under a jacket. The contrast is the only decoration on the garment, which is the point. If you want the reasoning behind the weave, rib knitting has been doing this job since the eighteenth century.

Fit and sizing

Cut close through the shoulder and clean through the body. A considered fit, not a slim one. If you are between sizes or prefer room, take the larger. How to wear the white drop needle polo

White is the hardest colour to wear badly and the easiest to wear thoughtlessly. With stone or olive trousers it reads considered. With black it reads deliberate. Under a jacket the oxblood collar gives it just enough to hold its own against a lapel. It is the piece that makes everything else in the wardrobe look better organised than it is.

Fabric and care

Caring for a white drop needle polo is simple, and doing it properly is most of what keeps it white:

• 100% combed cotton, drop needle rib
• Machine wash cold, gentle cycle, with whites only
• Do not bleach — it yellows cotton over time and will attack the oxblood tipping
• Reshape and dry flat in shade; a hanger will stretch the shoulders of a wet polo permanently
• Warm iron on the reverse, avoiding the embroidery
• Do not tumble dry
